Interviewing Amateur Filmmakers

Hello, We (5 undergraduate students at Olin College) are very interested in learning about independent and amateur filmmakers! As part of our collaborative design course, we are engaging with filmmakers to both learn about the experience and explore the human centered design process by talking with student, amateur, or independent filmmakers primarily in the greater Boston area. We’d be very interested in all things related to how you make your films, from casting to production to audio, and the student perspective on filmmaking would give us some unique insight. We would love to ask you or any filmmakers you know questions in person and see what you do firsthand, ideally for about 60 minutes (but that timing is flexible). If we could potentially attend one of your group’s meetings, that would be wonderful, though we also understand if that wouldn’t work. If in person doesn’t work, calling online would still be hugely helpful. Hello Team! I'm happy to be of help. To be transparent, I made a career change back in 2023 and I am now a financial advisor with New York Life/Eagle Strategies rather than a full-time filmmaker. I do still have my production company, but it's largely dormant at the moment and something I hope to return to when my kids are quite a bit older (I have 3 under 10 years old). That said, I'm still more than happy to share about my experiences as a filmmaker. At Olin, we've been finding value in our school's focus on human-centered design and consciously designing for good in the world, and this connection to Olin is partly why we're interested in reaching out to you. Hello Carol! This is Jake, one of the students from Olin College who talked to you earlier about our project to meet and learn about filmmakers. Thank you for the warm welcome earlier - getting to see the space was incredible. We're interested in the whole process of filmmaking, and would love to speak with people who go through the whole process. You mentioned Troy who runs videography for you, and that would be a great person to talk to.
