Hello Henry, I’ve heard back from the CD Teaching Team, and they are very much in favor of your team proceeding with John Kind. Bottom line is that most everything you do will be strictly internal, but the final event will have an audience and provide an opportunity for people to see the name of the studio, which you could include and list him as a contributor or sponsor on your final materials. I’m pasting some of the TT comments below because there are some helpful suggestions in there. "the students should also tell him that we teach them to be respectful of the privacy of the people they interview, and they will be expected to maintain privacy as part of their professional skill development. "I'd still recommend that the students use a pseudonym for his people portrait. Doing so would form good habits and ensure that they wouldn't feel restrained in potentially putting anything on there that could be construed as less than positive (eg. Pain points, contradictions, etc.). " "Seems like John is most interested in social media posts though, so I'd recommend that the team make sure to take a photo of the engagement in process, and to provide that image to John here so he could create a post himself. And/or the students could make a post and tag him, or we could send it to Olin's PR team and have them create a post showing CD in process and tagging John's studio (which is probably what he'd most like to have happen)... Doing any of this isn't required, but the students may want to be aware of this request that we're reading between the lines as a form of reciprocity. " "Marketing can also help the students to understand how these kinds of relationships work and how to advocate for themselves and the college." [FROM AN EXTERNAL SENDER] Hi Henry and team, Thank you for the additional details and for sharing the approval statement. I’m happy to move forward with an in-person meeting. I’m available for a 60-minute session and comfortable meeting either on or near the Olin campus in Needham, or at a mutually convenient professional/public space in the Boston area. A few quick points to confirm alignment: * I’m comfortable with note-taking and educational use as outlined. * Audio recording is fine with confirmation at the start of the session; no video recording. * I’m open to collaborative social media posts, provided content is mutually approved prior to posting. * As a professional courtesy, I’d appreciate being credited as John Kind Studios LLC in any class presentations or materials that reference this collaboration. If that all works on your end, feel free to propose 2–3 dates/times and your preferred location. Looking forward to connecting. We would prefer to meet in person (assuming it is relatively close to Needham, MA) to better understand what it is like to be a filmmaker. Attached to this email is a description of what we would be asking from you. We are unable to provide compensation for your time, but we sincerely hope you get something good out of sharing your craft with us. We are comfortable with posting on social media together. We are excited to get to know you. Please let us know if you are willing to meet in person and what times work best for you! [FROM AN EXTERNAL SENDER] Hi Henry, This sounds like fun! I am a great choice for this project because John Kind Studios LLC was founded in the mission of teaching the youth what I know. We are a creative production agency and as its architect, the company is designed to solve business problems in creative production. Our curriculum is founded on the scarcity of knowledge in the inner city of Boston for media production. I have designed and led students into strong audiovisual foundational skills. We (5 undergraduate students at Olin College) are very interested in learning about independent and amateur filmmakers! As part of our collaborative design course, we are engaging with filmmakers to both learn about the experience and come up with a design alongside you for filmmakers. We are interested in all things related to how you make your films, from casting to production to audio. We would love to ask you questions in person and see what you do firsthand, ideally for about 60 minutes. If in person doesn’t work, calling online would still be hugely helpful. We hope to gain experience in human centered design. Thank you for your time and consideration, Henry Tejada Deras B.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering Second-Year Student | Franklin W.
